Types of bridges

 Reinforced bridges

They are made of steel subjected to tensile and compressive stresses. No bending moment is allowed in this structure. The most stable structural form is triangular.

Arch type bridges

The arch bridge is mainly subjected to compressive stresses. It uses an aerodynamic system with torsional stiffness.

Suspension bridges

In the suspension bridge type, long spans can be provided. It gives a lot of freedom to the design engineer to provide a long span with the help of tensioning cables. It mainly consists of the following:

Slab-type bridges

This is the most common type of bridge. Used almost everywhere where the span is not so long.

Box girder bridges

It is a box girder different from the normal "I" girder, it can easily resist an amount of torsion. This type of bridge contains an upper deck, vertical web and bottom slab.
